Osteoarthritis therapy & degenerative diseases

Osteoarthritis and other degenerative diseases are common challenges in the field of orthopaedics and traumatology. While osteoarthritis is characterised by signs of wear and tear in the joints, degenerative changes can also occur in the tendons. A holistic approach and a comprehensive range of treatments are essential in order to improve the quality of life of those affected.

Degenerative diseases: A broad spectrum

Osteoarthritis: Osteoarthritis is one of the most common degenerative joint diseases, characterised by the gradual breakdown of joint cartilage. This wear and tear leads to pain, stiffness and limited mobility in the affected joints, which can significantly impair quality of life.

Tendon disorders: In addition to osteoarthritis, degenerative diseases of the tendons are also common. The Achilles tendon, the tibialis posterior tendon and the peroneal tendons are particularly affected. These tendon diseases often manifest themselves in pain, swelling and limited function of the affected tendon.

Conservative treatment options

Conservative therapy is the top priority in the treatment of osteoarthritis and degenerative tendon disorders. Consistent physiotherapy can strengthen the muscles and improve mobility, which helps to alleviate the symptoms. In addition, special shoe fittings can help to relieve the affected tendons and thus reduce the pain.

Another effective conservative treatment option is autologous blood treatment with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). This method utilises the healing properties of the body’s own blood to support the healing process of the affected tendons and joints. PRP is extracted from the patient’s blood and injected into the affected area, where it has an anti-inflammatory and regeneration-promoting effect.

We also offer therapy with hyluronic acid preparations, which can alleviate joint inflammation and improve the gliding ability of joints suffering from osteoarthritis.

Surgical therapy options

If conservative measures do not bring the desired success, surgical treatment may be necessary. Open surgical techniques are often the best choice for degenerative diseases of the tendons and advanced osteoarthritis. These procedures require special knowledge and skills, which Dr. Thomas has as an experienced specialist in this field.

Open surgical technique: The classic open surgical technique offers precise and effective options for treating degenerative tendon disorders and advanced osteoarthritis. Careful surgical procedures can restore the function of the affected tendons and permanently alleviate the pain.

We are at your side
