Dr med. Dr h.c. Manfred Thomas

As a renowned specialist in orthopaedics and trauma surgery, Dr med Dr h.c. Manfred Thomas is your expert for foot and ankle complaints. After completing his medical degree in Germany in 1989 and further specialisations, he was Head of the Department of Foot and Ankle Diseases at the Hessingpark Clinic in Augsburg from 2002 to 2023. Internationally renowned, with an honorary doctorate from the Ukrainian University in Dnjepro, Dr Thomas is not only active in Europe, but also regularly visits Kuwait and neighbouring countries as a visiting doctor. As Vice President of the German Association for Foot and Ankle e.V., Dr Thomas is largely responsible for training foot and ankle surgeons in Germany and was elected President of the European Foot and Ankle Society in 2022. The presidency begins in 2024 . Since 2024, he has also been appointed to the board of the World Foot and Ankle Society.

With well over 400 lectures at national and international events, book contributions and publications in international journals, he is continuously active in education and training in the field of foot and ankle surgery. Since 2012, he has been the editor of a leading textbook in e-book format. In 2005 and 2013 he was Congress President of the German Foot and Ankle Annual Congress.

He has been listed in the Focus list of foot and ankle specialists since 2016 and in the Stern list of the best since 2022.

Dr Thomas has specialised exclusively in the treatment of foot and ankle disorders since 2002. This includes conventional and minimally invasive treatment for example from Arthroses of the ankle or metatarsus and forefoot, flatfoot deformities in children and adults, cartilage surgery as well as the implantation of artificial joints in the foot and ankle. Sports injuries including ligament, tendon or bone injuries are also part of his spectrum.

  • For over 25 years, Dr Thomas has regularly led and organised courses and congresses in cooperation with foot societies in the respective countries.
  • In 2008, he was a founding member of the Czech Society for Foot and Ankle Surgery.
  • From 2014 to 2017, he was instrumental in founding the Ukrainian Society for Foot and Ankle Surgery.
  • In 2005 and 2013, he was congress president and local organiser of the annual congress of the German Foot and Ankle Association.
  • He has already been appointed organiser and congress president of the annual congress of the European Foot and Ankle Society (EFAS) for 2026.
