Hallux therapy at the Augsburg Hallux Centre

The current practice has its roots in the renowned Augsburg Hallux Centre, which was founded by Dr. Hochheuser As a result, the treatment of hallux valgus has remained a central speciality of the new practice. Our approach includes both conservative and surgical treatment options to meet the individual needs of our patients.

Conservative treatment: the first step towards relief

As with all other conditions, the treatment of hallux valgus initially focuses on non-surgical, so-called conservative treatment. We work closely with experienced physiotherapists and orthopaedic shoe technicians who have particular expertise in this area. This interdisciplinary co-operation enables us to solve many problems without surgery.

Physiotherapy: Targeted exercises and treatments can strengthen the muscles and improve mobility. This contributes significantly to pain relief and improved foot posture.

Orthopaedic footwear technology: Customised insoles and special shoe adjustments can help to reduce the pressure on the forefoot and support the natural foot position. These measures help to alleviate discomfort and slow down the progression of the deformity.

Surgical treatment: customised solutions for every patient

If conservative measures do not bring the desired success, we offer all standard surgical correction techniques. Our aim is to find and implement the best possible solution for each patient.

Classic surgical techniques: Dr Thomas primarily advocates classic surgical techniques. This involves exposing the bone and securing the correction result with a plate and screws that he has developed himself. This method enables precise correction and stable fixation, which leads to long-term success.

Minimally invasive surgical techniques: Dr Hochheuser is a proven specialist in minimally minimally invasive surgical techniques. This so-called ‘keyhole method’ does not involve exposing the bone via a classic skin incision. Instead, the correction is made through tiny incisions in the skin. As a rule, the use of plates and screws is not necessary and the correction result is secured using special bandaging techniques and bandaging. The foot can be put into a special shoe immediately after the operation, so crutches are not required. Dr Hochheuser is an international leader in this technique and brings his extensive experience to every treatment.
